JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/17/2008 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø basketball teams came away from Pulaski, Tennessee on Saturday with a split in the two games. The No. 1 ranked 91±¬ÁÏÍø Lady Bulldogs improved their perfect start to 25-0 with a 93-69 win over Martin Methodist College. The 91±¬ÁÏÍø men fell short with a 90-75 defeat at the hands of the Martin Methodist RedHawks.

The 91±¬ÁÏÍø women (25-0, 14-0) improved a 16-point halftime lead to a 24-point win. 91±¬ÁÏÍø trailed early in the first half by one point when junior Merideth Jacobs caught fire. Jacobs made five straight three pointers, on her way to 6-of-8 shooting from behind the arc in the first half. Her 22 first half points sparked 91±¬ÁÏÍø to the big lead. For the second straigth game, the second half was dominated by Josephine Ownio with 15 of her 20 points coming in the second frame.

In the men's game, both teams held leads of as many as six points during the first half, before Martin Methodist ended the half up by five points, 43-38. Martin Methodist then opened the second half with a 5-0 run to jump up by 10 points. The RedHawks pushed the lead to up to 13 points, before 91±¬ÁÏÍø (13-12, 7-8) cut it down to seven-points late in the game. However, it was solid free throw shooting down the stretch that propelled the RedHawk victory, 90-75, over 91±¬ÁÏÍø.

Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be the first campus wide event held on 91±¬ÁÏÍø's campus since the tornado of February 5. 91±¬ÁÏÍø will host Freed-Hardeman University (Tenn.) on Thursday, February 21. The women will play at 6:00 pm with the men to follow at 8:00 pm.
