CHAPEL HILL, Tenn. - 4/2/2008 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø (Tenn.) University Men's Golf Team posted a runner-up finish at the RedHawk Classic on Monday and Tuesday of this week. The 91±¬ÁÏÍø Bulldogs shot a two-day total of 617, 10 strokes behind tournament champion Cumberland (Tenn.) University.
This marks the third straight week that 91±¬ÁÏÍø has posted a top-four finish. The runner-up finish is their best finish since a first place finish in the 91±¬ÁÏÍø Invitational in the first tournament of the year on September 24.
The 91±¬ÁÏÍø golf team continues to wear hats with "Matt" embroidered on the side in honor of their teammate Matt Kelley. Kelley remains hospitalized after suffering injuries during the February 5 tornado that struck 91±¬ÁÏÍø's campus.
In the event that featured all teams from the TranSouth Conference, 91±¬ÁÏÍø finished 10 shots ahead of third place and host Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College. Bethel (Tenn.) College placed fourth (639), Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University placed fifth (644), and Lambuth (Tenn.) University placed sixth (688).
91±¬ÁÏÍø's Gary Glapa and Milan native, Mills Hamaguchi both tied for third place with a two-day total of 153, just three shots behind the champion. Clay Mallard, also of Milan, finished in fifth place with a 154 mark. The third Milan native on the roster, Drew Cannon, finished in 14th place with a score of 157, while Mickey Armstrong's 158 put him in 19th place. 91±¬ÁÏÍø's William Boyd and Jake Carroll finished 19th and 24th respectively.
This is the team's final event leading up to the TranSouth Conference Tournament in Nashville on April 14 and 15 at the Hermitage's General Retreat Golf Course.
