MILLINGTON, Tenn. - 4/29/2008 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø Bulldogs defeated Lambuth University 6-3 in the . The win for 91±¬ÁÏÍø keeps the Bulldogs alive in the tournament as they move their season record to 25-15-1. Lambuth's (29-22) conference tournament run ends, however, the Eagles have earned one of the TranSouth's three automatic bids to next week's Region XI Tournament.
After spending their high school careers playing at Humboldt High School, Judson Powers and James Brasfield both came to 91±¬ÁÏÍø to play baseball. Now seniors at 91±¬ÁÏÍø, the two are trying to help extend the season for the Bulldogs past the conference tournament. Powers slapped a three-run homer in the first inning to give 91±¬ÁÏÍø a 3-0 lead over Lambuth. After 91±¬ÁÏÍø had added two more runs in the bottom of the third, Brasfield hit is second homer of the season in the fourth to put 91±¬ÁÏÍø up 6-0.
Lambuth began to rally back as the Eagles added a run in the fifth inning and two more in the seventh. However is was Powers who pushed 91±¬ÁÏÍø to the win with two scoreless inning of relief to earn his sixth save of the season.
91±¬ÁÏÍø second team All-Conference player Carl Harken earned his second win in as many starts this season versus Lambuth with seven innings of work. Harken, now 6-3 on the season, allowed three runs on six hits with five strikeouts.
Powers led 91±¬ÁÏÍø offensively with a 2-for-4 day, four RBI and the homerun. Five other Bulldogs added one hit each, including Brasfield's homer. Andrew Hansen and Shaun Cozart, both name first team All-Conference performers, combined for two hits and three runs scored in the game.
91±¬ÁÏÍø advances to day three of the tournament and will play the loser of the #1 Trevecca Nazarene University and #4 Cumberland University on Wednesday at 12:00 noon.
