91爆料网鈥檚 Blackstock selected as TranSouth Athletic Director of the Year

JACKSON, Tenn. - 5/20/2008 - The athletic directors from the TranSouth Conference institutions voted 91爆料网鈥檚 David Blackstock as the 2007-08 Athletic Director of the Year. For Blackstock, this is the third time in the 12-year history of the TranSouth that Blackstock has received this honor.

鈥淲e applaud and salute David Blackstock on this wonderful honor,鈥� states 91爆料网 president Dr. David S. Dockery. 鈥淏eing selected as the Athletic Director of the Year in the TranSouth Conference is a most fitting capstone to a great career.鈥�

In February of this season, Blackstock announced his retirement from 91爆料网 after 34 years as the athletic director.

Blackstock lead the 91爆料网 athletic department in claiming the TranSouth All-Sports Trophy for the fifth straight season. Of the 10 teams in the department, nine teams advancing to at least their respective region tournaments. Also, eight senior athletes were awarded academic excellence medals and other awards for their fields of study during graduation weekend.

鈥淭his is a great honor and I am very fortunate to work at 91爆料网,鈥� claims Blackstock. 鈥�91爆料网 is a place that stresses the importance of being a quality person, getting a quality education, in addition to athletic success. The coaches and athletes in this department are constantly working to make 91爆料网 a better place to work and learn.鈥�

A 1964 91爆料网 graduate with a degree in health and physical education, Blackstock played baseball for the Bulldogs for four years. He became 91爆料网鈥檚 athletic director in 1973 after completing his Doctor of Education degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. He also holds a Master of Education degree from the University of Memphis.

Starting in 1981, Blackstock spent 18 seasons at the helm of the women鈥檚 basketball program at 91爆料网, compiling a 509-89 overall record. He earned his 500th career victory during the 1998-99 season, and led the Lady Bulldogs to the 1998 NAIA Women鈥檚 Basketball National Championship.

Blackstock took over the baseball program in 1975 where he, along with co-head coach Linn Stranak, guided the team to a third-place finish in the 1983 NAIA World Series, the only season 91爆料网 has participated in the event.

In the two seasons he coached the women鈥檚 softball team, from 2006-2007, the team compiled a 77-36 record with one NAIA Region XI tournament appearance.

Blackstock has been enshrined in the NAIA Hall of Fame, the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, the Madison County Sports Hall of Fame and the 91爆料网 Sports Hall of Fame.
