91±¬ÁÏÍø Basketball Signs Haitian for 2002-03 Season

Jackson, Tenn. - 8/7/2002 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø has signed Pierre Valmera, a 6-foot-8 forward, to play basketball for the Bulldogs this fall. Valmera, from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, hails from the same place as Robert Joseph, who spent last season shattering block records and gaining national recognition during his season with the Bulldogs. NAIA Player of the Year, All-American, and all-time college record holder for blocks, Joseph, has signed a pro contract with Coinga Menorca, a team in Spain.

Valmera will join the Bulldogs as a freshman. He has averaged 20 points, 10 rebounds, and five blocks per game last season. He graduated from Nicholas Copernic High School in Haiti.

91±¬ÁÏÍø's head coach Ralph Turner states that, "It is a thrill to have a freshman of Pierry's magnitude. His presence will be known on both offense and defense." Coach Turner goes on to say, 'It's a lot of fun to coach a guy that loves the game of basketball and has the desire to put in extra time in the gym to make himself a better player. We have that in Pierry".
