JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/27/2008 - 91±¬ÁÏÍø's men soccer team held off No. 21 Mid-Continent (Ky.) University for a 4-2 TransSouth Conference win. The 91±¬ÁÏÍø Bulldogs improved to 5-3-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference. Mid-Continent dropped to 4-3-1 on the season and 0-1 in league play.
91±¬ÁÏÍø jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half. Wagner Oliveira scored first with an assist by Richard Norman. Following an own goal Richard Norman scored the third goal of the half for 91±¬ÁÏÍø. All three goals for the Bulldogs came in a five minute span. 91±¬ÁÏÍø held a 3-0 lead at the half.
Seven minutes into the second half, Mid-Continent finally got a shot through by Marco Pratis. 91±¬ÁÏÍø's Oliveira scored his second goal of the match in the 65th minute to put 91±¬ÁÏÍø up by three. A late goal by Freddy Okello of Mid-Continent finalized the score at 4-2.
91±¬ÁÏÍø goalie James Landham recorded six saves in the win. Mid-Continent outshot 91±¬ÁÏÍø 15-8, including 9-5 in shots-on-goal.
Up next for the Bulldogs will be a cross-town matchup with rival Lambuth University. The match will take place at 91±¬ÁÏÍø on September 30th, at 7 p.m.
