No. 1 91±¬ÁÏÍø women's basketball survive upset bid, defeat St. Francis 90-74

JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/14/2008 - The Lady Bulldogs of 91±¬ÁÏÍø survived their first tough contest of the season against University of Saint Francis (Ill.) by a final score of 90-74. 91±¬ÁÏÍø is now 5-0 on the season. The Lady Saints of St. Francis fall to 3-1.

91±¬ÁÏÍø scored quickly on a three pointer by Kayla Hudson, but fell behind just as quickly. The Lady Bulldogs and Lady Saints swapped the lead twice before knotting the score up 9-9 with just under 11 minutes to play in the first half. 91±¬ÁÏÍø began to pull away, taking their lead up to four, 13-9, on a field goal by Kaitlin Dudley. After falling behind St. Francis once more, 91±¬ÁÏÍø retook the lead for good on another basket by Dudley. They drove their lead up to 11 twice in the half, before taking a seven point advantage into halftime, 40-33.

The Lady Saints scored first in the second half on a basket by Jacqie Storm. 91±¬ÁÏÍø, however, continued to expand their lead, going up by 13, 66-53, on a basket by Lavanda Ross. St. Francis did not give up as they pulled within five points of the Lady Bulldogs, 71-66, with just under six minutes left in the contest. 91±¬ÁÏÍø finished strong, however, winning by their biggest margin of 16 points, 90-74.

91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by Kaitlin Dudley with 21 points for the Lady Bulldogs. Josephine Owino posted a double-double for 91±¬ÁÏÍø with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Kayla Hudson and Zeinab Chan each added 14 points for the Lady Bulldogs. Ashley Lillard led the Lady Bulldogs in rebounds, pulling down 11 boards for the night.

St. Francis' Jacqie Storm led the Lady Saints with a game-high 24 points. Kaci Baird and Amanda Mistretta added 14 and 11 point, respectively.

The Lady Bulldogs play again Saturday, November 15, versus Lindenwood (Mo.) University in their second game of the Lady Bulldog Classic at the Fred DeLay Gymnasium on the campus of 91±¬ÁÏÍø. The game is set to tip off at 4 pm.
