NASHVILLE, Tenn. - 2/24/2009 - of No. 1 91±¬ÁÏÍø and Jana Cross of No. 5 Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University has been named the TranSouth Athletic Conference women's basketball Co-Players of the Week for the week ending Sunday, February 22, 2009.
Owino, a 6-foot-4 senior post from Mombasa, Kenya, led the Bulldogs to a 2-0 week with a 101-57 win over Receiving Votes Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College, and a 78-65 win at No. 5 Freed-Hardeman. She scored 29 points and grabbed 14 rebounds versus Martin Methodist while adding three blocks and two steals. She hit 10-of-13 from the field and all nine of her free throw attempts. In the FHU game, Owino added 24 points, five rebounds, and two blocks while hitting 10-of-15 from the field.
For the week Owino averaged 26.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, and 1.5 assists per game. She hit 20-of-28 (71%) from the field and 13-of-14 from the foul line.
The 91±¬ÁÏÍø Lady Bulldogs are 26-1 overall and are 13-0 in the TranSouth. They are currently ranked No. 1 in the latest NAIA Division 1 Women's Basketball Poll and have clinched at least a share of the 2009 TranSouth Regular Season Title.
