NASHVILLE, Tenn. - 3/2/2009 - Josephine Owino of No. 1 91±¬ÁÏÍø has been named the TranSouth Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, March 1, 2009.
Owino, a 6-4 senior center from Mombasa, Kenya, led the Bulldogs to a 3-0 week including a 24 point, 18 rebound, four block, and two steal effort in an 88-70 win over No. 10 Trevecca Nazarene. Owino was 8-for-14 from the field and 8-of-10 from the foul line. In the Lady Bulldog's 108-44 win over Blue Mountain she scored another 23 points and then had 24 points in a 109-47 win over Mid-Continent.
Owino also surpassed the 2,000 career point mark this week. This is the fifth time this season that Owino has been named the TranSouth Player of the Week.
For the week she averaged 23.7 points (in 21 minutes per game), 9.3 rebounds, 2.7 blocks, and two steals while shooting 28-of-42 (67%) from the field and 15-19 (79%) from the foul line.
The Bulldogs are 29-1 overall and finished as the TranSouth regular season champions with a perfect 16-0 record. They are currently ranked No. 1 in the latest NAIA Division I Women's Basketball Poll.
