91±¬ÁÏÍø baseball splits double-header, takes 2-of-3 in series at Mid-Continent

MAYFIELD, Ky. - 3/28/2009 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø baseball team posted a double-header split on Saturday at Mid-Continent (Ky.) University, winning the first game 13-2 and falling in the final game, 10-9. 91±¬ÁÏÍø won the series opener on Friday 9-4. 91±¬ÁÏÍø is now 18-10 on the season and 5-6 in the TranSouth, while Mid-Continent goes to 9-26 overall and 108 in league play.

Game one started with the home Cougars leading 2-1 after two innings. However, 91±¬ÁÏÍø scored in each of the final five innings, including three in the third, one in the fourth, three in the fifth, two in the sixth, and three more in the seventh to bury the Cougars. Eight of the nine starters for 91±¬ÁÏÍø recorded a hit, with all nine getting on base during the game. Danny Grimm was 4-for-4 to lead 91±¬ÁÏÍø. Josh Jones was 3-for-5 with three RBI, while Grant Luke was 3-for-4. Corey Rudolph, David Maristany, Alex Turner and Jones each blasted homeruns in the game for 91±¬ÁÏÍø. Jeremy Stack (3-2) earned the win with six innings of work, allowing just two runs, one earned on six hits and one strikeout.

In the second game, 91±¬ÁÏÍø jumped out to the early lead with three runs in the first and one more in the second to lead 4-0. However, the Cougars rallied back with three in each the second and third innings to take the lead. Another three-spot from Mid-Continent in the fifth and a run in the bottom of the sixth put the Cougars up 10-5. That 10th run of the game for the Cougars proved to be the game winner as 91±¬ÁÏÍø, looking for the sweep, tallied four runs in the top of the seventh. But with the game-tying run on third, 91±¬ÁÏÍø was not able to score again, giving Mid-Continent their first league win of the season. Allen William led the Bulldogs offensively with a 3-for-4 day and three RBI. David Maristany also posted three RBI, going 2-for-3, while Danny Grim was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Maristany and Williams each hit homeruns for 91±¬ÁÏÍø. Brad Davis (3-2) took the loss, giving up nine hits and six runs in his 2.1 innings pitched.

Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be a road game on Monday, March 30 in Memphis as the Bulldogs will play a game against NCAA Div. II Christian Brothers (Tenn.) University at 3:00 pm.
