JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/1/2009 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø Lady Bulldog softball team posted a double-header sweep over Lambuth (Tenn.) University on Wednesday afternoon. 91±¬ÁÏÍø took the first game 1-0 and rallied for a 5-4 win in the second game. 91±¬ÁÏÍø improved to 15-13 on the season, while Lambuth dropped to 3-25 overall.
In game one, 91±¬ÁÏÍø's Hailee Edwards (7-2) and Lambuth's Hanna Trice were locked in a pitching duel as the game was scoreless through four and one-half innings. 91±¬ÁÏÍø was able to push across an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the lead. Edwards recorded eight strikeouts for 91±¬ÁÏÍø as she made the 1-0 lead stand up. In her complete game victory, Edwards allowed just three hits. 91±¬ÁÏÍø's Ali Thomas posted the game's only RBI, while Kristen Kirk led the Lady Bulldogs with a 2-for-2 game.
Game two saw 91±¬ÁÏÍø score early with a run in the bottom of the first inning. However, Lambuth stormed back with a run in the fourth to tie the game, and three more in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead. 91±¬ÁÏÍø answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth, but stranded the bases loaded, trailing 4-2. 91±¬ÁÏÍø's Sydney McMillian (7-4) held Lambuth scoreless over the final two innings while, 91±¬ÁÏÍø posted three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the 5-4 lead. Thomas led 91±¬ÁÏÍø with two RBI in the second game. Lead-off hitter, Michelle Albonetti was a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate.
Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be a trip to Fulton, Mo. on Saturday, April 4 as 91±¬ÁÏÍø plays in the William Woods Tournament. 91±¬ÁÏÍø will play three games on Saturday starting at 9:00 am.
