JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/10/2009 - In the first game of a three-game weekend series, the 91±¬ÁÏÍø Bulldogs defeated Lambuth (Tenn.) University 7-6. 91±¬ÁÏÍø's four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning broke a 3-3 tie, before Lambuth answered with three runs in the top of the ninth to cut into 91±¬ÁÏÍø's lead.
Carl Harken (5-3) tossed a complete game for his victory, allowing six runs, five earned, on 12 hits with five strikeouts. Matt Riley (1-1) took the loss, allowing three runs in his 1.1 innings of relief.
Both 91±¬ÁÏÍø and Lambuth scored twice each in the first inning to set the score at 2-2. 91±¬ÁÏÍø took a brief lead in the bottom of the fourth with tally. Lambuth tied the game again with an unearned run in the fifth.
The game remained 3-3 until the bottom of the eighth when 91±¬ÁÏÍø's Josh Jones two RBI triple highlighted the four-run inning. Lambuth wasn't finished as pinch-hitter Elias Chavez drove a three-run home run to right field with two outs. However, Harken closed out the game with a strikeout to preserve his win.
91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by Bolivar native Clint Barnes with a 3-for-4 night from the plate, including two RBI. Jones and Alex Turner each added two hits in the game, with Jones also posting two RBI.
The two teams will close out the three-game series with a double-header at 91±¬ÁÏÍø's Fesmire Field on Saturday, April 11 starting at 1:00 p.m.
