JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/17/2009 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø Bulldogs swept the Friday double-header of a three-game series with TranSouth Conference opponent Bethel (Tenn.) College. The Bulldogs won the first game 17-0 in five innings and won game two 2-1 to move to 26-14 overall with a 7-9 record in league play. The Wildcats of Bethel fall to 13-23, and 4-11 in TranSouth play.
In the second game, Bethel scored in the top of the first inning to grab a quick 1-0 lead. However, after the top of the first inning, the game became a pitcher's duel. The game went back and forth over the following six innings, with no more runs crossing the plate until the bottom of the seventh inning. Then, in the bottom of the seventh inning, 91±¬ÁÏÍø began to get their bats going. Cole McAdams hit a one-out double, which was followed by Clint Barnes walk. Allen Williams then singled down the leftfield line to load the bases. Danny Grimm was then hit by a pitch to walk in the tying run, 1-1. Then Alex Turner drove a sacrifice line drive to shallow center, allowing Barnes to score the winning run for 91±¬ÁÏÍø to pull out their second win of the day, 2-1.
91±¬ÁÏÍø was led at the plate by Williams, who went 2-for-3, along with Alex Turner who also went 2-for-3 in game two with the game-winning RBI. Grimm also had a hit in the game with an RBI.
Jeremy Stack threw a complete game for the Bulldogs, only giving up three hits, while striking out nine.
The first game of the day also went in 91±¬ÁÏÍø's favor, as they started the day with their bats blazing. 91±¬ÁÏÍø pushed a run across the plate in the first inning and never looked back. The Bulldogs posted six more runs in the bottom of the second, with the help of Josh Jones' first home run of the day, to take a 7-0 lead. 91±¬ÁÏÍø's Carl Harken continued to hold the Wildcats scoreless, and the 91±¬ÁÏÍø offense continued to pile on the runs. The Bulldogs added four more runs in the bottom of the third inning and another six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take the first game 17-0.
91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by Josh Jones who went 4-for-4 in the game with two homeruns and five RBI. Corey Rudolph had three hits in the game with five RBI. Danny Grimm had three hits and four runs scored in the game, while David Maristany and Grant Luke each went 2-for-2 in the game with two and one RBI, respectively.
Senior Carl Harken threw a complete game for the Bulldogs, giving up only three hits and striking out one in five innings of work.
Up next for the Bulldogs is the final game of the three game series with Bethel. First pitch is slated for 12 noon at Fesmire Field on the campus of 91±¬ÁÏÍø.
