91±¬ÁÏÍø softball sweeps double-header over Trevecca Nazarene

JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/18/2009 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø Lady Bulldogs swept their double-header over Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University. The Lady Bulldogs won the first game 6-1 and won game two 6-4. With the pair of wins, 91±¬ÁÏÍø moves to 21-18 overall, with a 6-2 record in TranSouth Conference play. The Trojans of Trevecca Nazarene fall to 18-15 on the year and 7-4 in league play.

Game one of the double-header began quietly, as the Lady Bulldogs and the Trojans played through four innings knotted at 0-0. However, in the bottom of the fifth inning, 91±¬ÁÏÍø got their offense going, posting two runs, to take a 2-0 lead. The Lady Bulldogs then added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 6-0 lead in the contest. Trevecca Nazarene mustered a run in the top of the seventh inning, but their comeback effort fell short as the Lady Bulldogs took the game by a final score of 6-1.

91±¬ÁÏÍø was led in the first game by Ali Thomas and Lindsey Landreneau who each went 3-for-4 at the plate, with two and one, RBI, respectively. Ashley Blankenship, Kristen Kirk, and Carmesha Owens each added two hits for the Lady Bulldogs in the contest, with Kirk and Owens each driving in a run, as well. Sydney McMillin got the win for 91±¬ÁÏÍø, moving to 10-7 on the year.

In the second game, Trevecca Nazarene scored first to take a quick 1-0 lead, but 91±¬ÁÏÍø answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first inning to knot the score at 1-1. Then, in the bottom of the third inning 91±¬ÁÏÍø added five runs, topped off by an inside-the-park grand slam by Michelle Albonetti, to go up 6-1. Trevecca Nazarene then posted a single run in the top of the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, but fell short as 91±¬ÁÏÍø took game two by a final score of 6-4.

The Lady Bulldogs were led at the plate by Michelle Albonetti, who went 2-for-3 with a grand slam and four RBI. Landreneau and Thomas added two hits each in the second contest. Hailee Edwards tossed the win for the Lady Bulldogs. Edwards is now 9-4 this season.

Next up for the Lady Bulldogs is a double-header at Fesmire Field on Monday, April 20 versus Bethel (Tenn.) College. The first game will begin at 3 pm.
