DICKSON, Tenn. - 4/21/2009 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø golf team was not able to repeat as TranSouth Champions as the Bulldogs finished in third place in the . 91±¬ÁÏÍø, the 2008 TranSouth Champions, shot a three-round 943, 24 shots behind tournament champion, Cumberland (Tenn.) University's 915.
91±¬ÁÏÍø's Mills Hamaguchi of Milan, Tenn. made a strong showing with a third place finish in the individual standings with a three-round total of 227, just four shots behind the tournament winner. Hamaguchi was named TranSouth All-Conference for his finish in the top-5.
During the 2008-09 golf season, 91±¬ÁÏÍø captured two first place finishes (91±¬ÁÏÍø-Bethel Duel and 91±¬ÁÏÍø Four-Team Challenge). 91±¬ÁÏÍø also posted three second place finishes this season (Cumberland University Shootout, 91±¬ÁÏÍø Shootout, UT Martin Grover Page Classic).
91±¬ÁÏÍø was in fifth place after a round one total of 311. Round two saw 91±¬ÁÏÍø post a 312 score, moving the Bulldogs to fourth place. Tuesday's third and final round score was 320 for 91±¬ÁÏÍø, putting them in a tie for third place with Bethel (Tenn.) College.
Martin Methodist (Tenn.) finished second, while Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) and Lyon (Ark.) placed fifth and sixth respectively.
Other 91±¬ÁÏÍø scores included Clay Mallard and Ryan Chandler in a tie for 10th place with a score of 236. Jake Carroll finished 21st with a 245, and Jesper Swedenborg finished 29th with a 262 score.
91±¬ÁÏÍø's Stephen Brooks, Jake Carroll, Matt Kelley, Tyler Lay, Andrew Mangrum, Clay Mallard, and Ben Ayris were each named TranSouth Scholar Atheltes for 2009.
91±¬ÁÏÍø has captured the TranSouth men's golf title in 2006 and 2008. The Bulldogs carried home individual titles in 2004 (Roger Cook) and 2008 (Clay Mallard).
