JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/6/2009 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø volleyball team lost 3-1 (24-26, 25-17, 25-16, 25-14) at Bethel (Tenn.) University on Tuesday night. 91±¬ÁÏÍø lost for just the second time this season in 19 matches and now sit at 17-2 overall and 5-2 in the TranSouth. Bethel improved to 16-2 on the season and 7-2 in league play.
91±¬ÁÏÍø and Bethel split their two regular season appearances with 91±¬ÁÏÍø taking the first meeting 3-2 earlier this year at 91±¬ÁÏÍø.
Bethel jumped out to a quick 11-5 lead in the first set. However, 91±¬ÁÏÍø answered back with a 17-8 run to take a 22-19 lead. The set was tied at 24-24 before 91±¬ÁÏÍø took the 26-24 win. In the second set, 91±¬ÁÏÍø led 2-1 early, but Bethel rallied and never trailed on their way to a 25-17 set victory. In the third set, the play was close for most of the way with the teams knotted at 12-12. However, Bethel closed out the set with a 13-4 run to win 25-16. In the fourth and final set, Bethel jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead and never trailed as they pushed on for the match clinching win, 25-14.
91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by Marcela Madeira with 15 kills, while Heather Lieberman added 12 kills. Katie Adams posted 36 assists, with Anna Sims leading 91±¬ÁÏÍø with three blocks.
Bethel was led by Thaise Vieira with 19 kills and Jessica Vieira with 16 kills. Adrianna Gonzales added 11 kills. Abby Masters recorded 50 assists, with J. Vieira leading with five blocks.
Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be home conference match on Wednesday, October 7 at 5:00 p.m. versus Cumberland (Tenn.) University.
