LEBANON, Tenn. - 10/8/2009 - In a match being played a day earlier than scheduled due to the threat of rain, the 91±¬ÁÏÍø Lady Bulldogs cruised to an 6-1 win at Cumberland (Tenn.) University. 91±¬ÁÏÍø improved to 6-4-2 on the season and 1-0-1 in the TranSouth. Cumberland dropped to 2-6-1 overall and 0-2 in league play.
91±¬ÁÏÍø started the afternoon with a goal from Candice Blackard in the thirteenth minute of play. Cumberland answered back with a goal from Morgan Shaffer in the twenty-fifth minute, assisted by Rachel Scoggins and Kristen McClanahan.
The Lady Bulldogs of 91±¬ÁÏÍø took control from that point on, with five unanswered goals to earn the win. Eboni Murphy scored in the thirty-third minute, assisted by Christina Reardon. 91±¬ÁÏÍø held a 2-1 lead at the half.
In the second half, Murphy posted her second goal of the match with a one-on-one score in the sixty-seventh minute. A goal from Steffi King in the seventy-first minute and a header from Jill Landers in the seventy-seventh minute pushed the score to 5-1. Reardon, who recorded her second assist of the match on the Landers’ goal, made good on a penalty kick goal in the eighty-eighth minute to set the final at 6-1.
91±¬ÁÏÍø out shot Cumberland 39-9 in the match. Laura Pla recorded three saves for 91±¬ÁÏÍø. Cumberland’s Cierra Boots recorded 13 saves.
Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be the make-up game with Bethel (Tenn.) University on Tuesday, October 13 at 5:00 p.m. at 91±¬ÁÏÍø.
