MONTGOMERY, Ala. - 10/10/2009 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø volleyball team swept through the Faulkner (Ala.) University Invitational with a pair of wins on Friday and Saturday. With the four wins, 91±¬ÁÏÍø improved to 21-3 on the season, snapping a two match losing skid.
In the tournament, 91±¬ÁÏÍø Heather Lieberman was named the MVP, while also being named to the all-tournament team.
91±¬ÁÏÍø passed the 20-win mark in a season for the fourth straight year and eleventh time in the 12-year history of the program (19 wins in 2005).
On Saturday, 91±¬ÁÏÍø defeated the host team, Faulkner 3-1 (25-22, 18-25, 25-10, 25-22). 91±¬ÁÏÍø then cruised past Spring Hill (Ala.) College 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-14).
Friday's first match for 91±¬ÁÏÍø featured two teams receiving votes in the latest NAIA volleyball rankings. 91±¬ÁÏÍø rallied from a 2-0 deficit for the third time this season to defeat the University of Mobile (Ala.) 3-2 (22-25, 10-25, 25-22, 25-17, 15-7). Later on Friday, 91±¬ÁÏÍø swept Southeastern (Fla.) University 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 30-28).
Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be a rematch with one of the only three teams to defeat the Lady Bulldogs this season. On Tuesday, October 13, 91±¬ÁÏÍø hosts Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University at 7:00 p.m. In addition to being a key match in the TranSouth standings, 91±¬ÁÏÍø will also be participating in the nationwide "Dig Pink" event bringing awareness to cancer. 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be wearing pink jerseys and pink t-shirts will be sold with money and donations being collected for 91±¬ÁÏÍø's Relay for Life team and the American Cancer Society.
