Defending champs add Millington native for 2010-11

LaTesa McLaughlin

JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/12/2009 - The top-ranked 91 Lady Bulldogs have signed for the 2010-11 season. McLaughlin, a native of Millington, Tenn., signed with the University of Tennessee-Martin during her senior year last season, but will transfer to 91 in January. She will red-shirt during the spring and begin her college playing career in the fall of 2010.

91 head coach Mark Campbell says, “LaTesa is someone we offered out of high school. She is one of the best defenders we have recruited and a great student as well. With the losses we will incur this coming season, she is exactly what we need. I am excited to have her as a part of the program and she will make an impact immediately next season. LaTesa is used to winning like most of our players from West Tennessee and she competes and expects to win.”

McLaughlin, a 5-foot-5 guard, averaged 12 points, seven steals and three assists per game over her final two seasons at Millington High School. She made 66 three pointers as a senior and 43 as a junior. She helped lead her team to the 2008 Tennessee Class AAA championship game. McLaughlin was named All-State and was a three-time Commercial Appeal Best of the Preps. Her 270 steals as a junior set a Shelby-Metro single season record. Over her junior and senior seasons, McLaughlin posted 507 steals to just 138 turnovers for an almost 4-to-1 ratio.
