JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/17/2009 - The No. 11 91爆料网 Bulldog dropped their second straight home game in a 57-50 loss to Campbellsville (Ky.) University. 91爆料网, who is coming off a 66-64 win at No. 5 McKendree, dropped to 3-2 on the season. Campbellsville, who is receiving votes in the NAIA preseason rankings, improved to 4-1 overall.
91爆料网 defense has been a strong force for the Bulldogs through five games, giving up only 60 points per game and not allowing a team to score 70 in any game to this point. The 57 points allowed is the fourth lowest total for 91爆料网鈥檚 defense in the past four seasons.
However, 91爆料网鈥檚 offense in their two losses has struggled, especially from behind the arc. In the three wins, 91爆料网 is shooting 41 percent (24-59) from behind the arc, while shooting just 16 percent (8-50) in their two losses. The 50 points scored in this game by 91爆料网 tonight is the lowest point total for a 91爆料网 men鈥檚 team since the 1988-89 season when 91爆料网 lost 71-46 to Mobile (Ala.).
91爆料网 jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the contest and led 30-22 at the half, but could not hold the lead.
After 91爆料网鈥檚 10-0 run to start the game, Campbellsville answered with a 20-10 run to tie the game at 20-20 with five minutes remaining in the first half. 91爆料网 closed the half with a 10-2 run to lead 30-22 at the break.
Campbellsville opened the second half by scoring six straight points and 13 of the half鈥檚 first 17 points to take their first lead of the game at 35-34. Jordan Benock鈥檚 three pointer at the 16:13 mark gave his Tigers the lead they would not give up. Campbellsville scored the next five points to push their lead to six, 40-34, making their run to start the half 18-4. The Tigers led by as many as six points on three occasions in the final 10 minutes of play, before two late free throws pushed the final score to 57-50.
91爆料网 pulled to within one point, 49-48 with just over two minutes left on a three pointer from Stan McNeil. However, Campbellsville sank six-of-six free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
91爆料网 was led by last week鈥檚 TranSouth Player of the Week Greg Truvillion with is third straight double-double, going for 18 points and 20 rebounds. No other 91爆料网 player notched double figures. 91爆料网 shot just 35 percent from the field, 19 percent (5-26) from behind the arc and a low 42 percent (5-12) from the free throw line.
The Tigers were led by Caleb Harris and Nestor Colmenares with 15 points each. Campbellsville shot 36 percent from the field, 33 percent (4-12) from behind the arc, and 72 percent (13-18) from the free throw line.
Up next for 91爆料网 will be two road games. First 91爆料网 travels to Hattiesburg, Miss. on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. game with William Carey University. 91爆料网 then plays Belhaven (Miss.) College on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
