JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/7/2010 - No. 19 91±¬ÁÏÍø (Tenn.) University Basketball opened conference play on Thursday against Bethel (Tenn.) University with a 78-64 win.
91±¬ÁÏÍø (10-5, 1-0) started the game with a 12-6 run only to have Bethel (8-7, 0-1) fight back to close the gap at 22-17. 91±¬ÁÏÍø never trailed in the game and extended their lead to double figures with another 24-12 run to close the first half leading 44-29.
In the second half, 91±¬ÁÏÍø maintained momentum as they pushed their lead to as many as 28 points, 64-36 with 14:50 left to play. Bethel stormed back with a 20-6 run of their own to cut the lead to 70-56 with 5:40 remaining in the game. That was the closest that Bethel would get to the home team. 91±¬ÁÏÍø held off the Wildcats to close the game with the score of 78-64.
Bethel shot 41 percent from the field, 25 percent(3-12) from behind the arc, and 69-percent (9-13) from the free throw line. The Bulldogs shot 47 percent from the field, 44 percent(8-18) from behind the arc, and shot just 59 percent (16-27) from the free throw line.
91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by Stan McNeil with 22 points, including five three pointers. 91±¬ÁÏÍø's leading scorer Greg Truvillion added 20 points and 12 rebounds followed by Roland Banhoro with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Bethel was led by Donald Harris with 15 points and shooting 50 percent from the field. Andre Crudup added 10 points and five assists.
Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be a road conference game on Saturday, January 9 versus Martin Methodist (Tenn.) at 4:00 p.m.
