JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/20/2010 - The 91爆料网 family is deeply saddened by the recent devastating earthquake in Haiti. The 91爆料网 athletic community is banning together by helping raise money for the disaster relief efforts in Haiti, in particular for two current and two former men鈥檚 basketball players.
The cause is one that has reached all across the world, including the 91爆料网 men鈥檚 basketball team. Junior Antoine Joseph and Samuel Danache, a freshman, are active players on the team this season. Former Bulldog players, Robert Joseph and Pierry Valmeria have also been affected by the earthquake in their home country.
All four players have been informed through friends or relatives that their immediate families are alive. But none have been able to communicate directly with their parents as of yet. Antione Joseph received word that his cousin of similar age who he grew up with, passed away in the earthquake.
Robert Joseph, a former 91爆料网 Bulldog who set the single season blocks record for all levels of college basketball, is currently playing ball in Spain. His team has allowed him time off and has helped fund his trip home and to help his family. Valmeria is currently playing professional basketball in Switzerland.
For each of the two home basketball games on January 14 and 18, 91爆料网 called on the boosters and fans in attendance to contribute in helping to support the families of these current and former 91爆料网 players, as well as, others. 91爆料网 athletics will be donating over $1,500.
As a 91爆料网 community, 91爆料网 is supporting the Baptist Global Response as they begin to mobilize their materials in order to aid this devastated country. The Southern Baptist convention is utilizing many of its resources to provide aid. The Baptist Global Response, International Mission Board, North American Mission Board and state convention disaster relief directors are working together to insure that Southern Baptists are strategically coordinated and enter the country in a swift and effective manner.
Those wishing to contribute funds towards the 91爆料网 community donation can write checks to "91爆料网" designated to "Haiti" or "Baptist Global Response." 91爆料网 Station and the Student Life Office are accepting these donations. President Dockery will send funds on behalf of the university to the Baptist Global response.
