JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/6/2010 - The No. 14 91±¬ÁÏÍø (Tenn.) University Bulldogs won their fourth straight game with a 74-65 win over Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College. 91±¬ÁÏÍø improved to 18-6 on the season and 9-1 in the TranSouth. Martin Methodist dropped to 15-7 overall and 3-5 in league play.
91±¬ÁÏÍø keeps pace in a tie with Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) at the top of the league standings.
91±¬ÁÏÍø opened the game with an 11-2 run and led 13-4 with 14:25 to play. 91±¬ÁÏÍø held the lead, allowing Martin Methodist to get as close as five points, but eventually extending the lead out to as many as 13 points, 40-27. 91±¬ÁÏÍø led 42-32 with 2:11 left, but the RedHawks closed out the half with a 4-0 run to cut the halftime lead down to 42-36
Martin Methodist continued the run started at the end of the first half. The RedHawks got a three pointer from Aubre Bodison to start a run of 11 straight for the RedHawks to start the half. Martin Methodist completed their 15-0 run, spanning two halves, and at the 16:06 mark of the second half, they lead 47-42. 91±¬ÁÏÍø scored their first points of the half on a three-point-play from Antione Joseph at the 16:03 mark. But the RedHawks pushed the lead back to five points, 50-45 with 15:50 left.
91±¬ÁÏÍø posted five straight points to tie the game at 50-50 and then swapped baskets with Martin Methodist over the next seven minutes. 91±¬ÁÏÍø took the lead for good at 58-57 with 8:40 left on a pair of free throws from Joseph. 91±¬ÁÏÍø outscored Martin Methodist 16-8 over the remaining eight minutes to get the 74-65 win.
91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by Greg Truvillion with a game high 18 points. Stan McNeil scored 13 points, Roland Banhoro added 11 points and Joseph scored 10 points. The Bulldogs shot 45 percent from the field, 39 percent (10-26) from behind the arc and 83 percent (10-12) from the free-throw line.
Martin Methodist was led by Will Shackleford with 17 points and Bodison with 15 points. The RedHawks shot 37 percent from the field, 35 percent (7-20) from three point range and 47 percent (8-17) from the free-throw line.
Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be a road conference game at Lyon (Ark.) on Thursday, Feb. 11 at 8:00 p.m.
