JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/13/2010 - The No. 10 91爆料网 (Tenn.) University men鈥檚 basketball team took sole possession of first place in the TranSouth Conference with a 69-60 win over No. 21 Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University. 91爆料网 improved to 20-6 on the season and 11-1 in the TranSouth. Freed-Hardeman dropped to 16-8 overall and 9-2 in league play.
91爆料网 has a 12-2 record since returning from Christmas, including a current six game winning streak. 91爆料网鈥檚 defense ranks No. 1 in the TranSouth and No. 3 in the NAIA, allowing opponents just a .379 field goal percentage. Over the past 14 games, 91爆料网 has allowed only three teams in the 70鈥檚 with no team scoring more than 75 points. During the six game winning streak, 91爆料网 is giving up only 60.8 points per game, with no team over 65 points.
Tonight, 91爆料网 continued their defensive dominance by holding the Lions, who average 83 points per game, to just 60 points.
The game started with both teams swapping baskets early. 91爆料网 was able to stretch their lead to eight points, 22-14, at the 8:44 mark following a three pointer from Greg Truvillion. Freed-Hardeman responded with a 14-2 run to take their largest lead of the game, 28-24, with 2:15 left in the half. 91爆料网 rallied again to close the half with a 7-2 run to take a 31-30 halftime advantage.
The first half featured two ties and eight lead changes.
The second half started much the same as the first with both teams swapping baskets. Over the first six-plus minutes, the game was tied twice with Freed-Hardeman gaining one-point leads on two occasions. With the Lions leading 43-42 at the 13:33 mark, 91爆料网鈥檚 Truvillion answered with a basket to give 91爆料网 the lead and they never trailed again. Freed-Hardeman stayed close and tied the game one final time at 51-51.
91爆料网 held a slim 56-55 lead with 3:18 left in the game. 91爆料网 then took control with a 7-0 run that was a part of a 14-5 run to close the game. 91爆料网 led by as many as 11 points, 69-58 in the final minute before taking the 69-60 final.
91爆料网 was led by Truvillion with 19 points, including two three pointers. Antoine Joseph added 14 points and Tacuma Alexander scored 13 points, including 7-of-8 free throws. 91爆料网 shot 46 percent from the field, 40 percent (6-15) from behind the arc and 68 percent (15-22) from the free-throw line.
Freed-Hardeman was led by Ken Bingham with 10 points. Zack Frey was held to single digits (9) for only the fourth time this season. The Lions shot 32 percent from the field, 17 percent (3-18) from three point range and 72 percent (13-18) from the free-throw line.
Up next for 91爆料网 will be on Monday, February 15 at 8:00 p.m. versus Cumberland (Tenn.) as the Bulldogs will attempt to avenge their only conference loss of the year.
