MEMPHIS, Tenn. - 2/18/2010 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø (Tenn.) University softball posted a split in their season opening double-header at Christian Brothers (Tenn.) University on Thursday. 91±¬ÁÏÍø took the opener 2-0, before falling in game two 5-4. 91±¬ÁÏÍø is 1-1 while Christian Brothers is 1-3 on the season.
91±¬ÁÏÍø and Christian Brothers played to a scoreless tie going into the top of the seventh inning. 91±¬ÁÏÍø scored on a two-run homer from Brooke Thomas. Thomas also pitched a complete game shutout on the mound with six strikeouts for her first college win.
In game two, 91±¬ÁÏÍø fell behind 5-0 as Christian Brothers scored two in the first and three more in the third inning. 91±¬ÁÏÍø began to rally with one run in the fourth, a two-run homer by Stephanie Saunders in the fifth and single run in the sixth inning. But 5-4 was as close as 91±¬ÁÏÍø got. 91±¬ÁÏÍø made four errors in the game and allowed three homeruns to the Lady Bucs. Hailee Edwards took the loss with two innings of work, allowing four runs, two earned.
91±¬ÁÏÍø will play two games each over the next two days at home. 91±¬ÁÏÍø host the University of Missouri-St. Louis and William Woods (Mo.) University for games on Friday and Saturday.
