91±¬ÁÏÍø softball wins pair on Friday, now 10-2 on season

JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/5/2010 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø (Tenn.) University softball team posted a pair of wins on Friday in the 91±¬ÁÏÍø Classic held at Fesmire Field. 91±¬ÁÏÍø won the first game 2-1 over William Woods (Mo.) University and then won 10-0 over Columbia (Mo.) University. 91±¬ÁÏÍø improved to 10-2 on the season and have won seven straight games.

In the first game, 91±¬ÁÏÍø got solo home runs from Lindsey Landreneau and Stephanie Sanders in the first and second innings respectively. 91±¬ÁÏÍø held that 2-0 lead until a run from William Woods in the top of the sixth cut their deficit in half. Freshman pitcher Brooke Thomas (7-1) was solid for 91±¬ÁÏÍø from the circle, tossing a complete game allowing just the one run on five hits with four strikeouts. 91±¬ÁÏÍø only managed four hits in the game as a team.

The second game was a different story. 91±¬ÁÏÍø exploded for five runs in the first inning, including a grand slam from Sanders. 91±¬ÁÏÍø added three more in the third and two in the fourth to lead 10-0. Keaton Kirk hit her first homerun of her college career on a three-run shot in the third. Kirk (3-0) also earned the win in the run-rule game, tossing five shutout innings, allowing just four hits and striking out eight batters. Landreneau, Sam Geisler and Sarah Freeman each led with two hits apiece. Saunders and Kirk led with four and three RBI respectively.

91±¬ÁÏÍø will continue in their classic on Saturday with an 11:00 a.m. game versus William Woods and a 3:00 p.m. game versus Columbia.
