JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/16/2010 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø (Tenn.) University Bulldogs defeated Belhaven (Miss.) University 4-3 in 11 innings on Tuesday. 91±¬ÁÏÍø scored the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning on a single by Beau Baker to improve to 17-3 on the season.
91±¬ÁÏÍø snapped a six-inning scoreless drought with three singles in the 11th. Grant Luke singled to center with one out. He then advanced to third on an opposite field hit by Corey Rudolph. Baker then promptly singled through the hole at shortstop to score Luke for the win.
Jared Davis (3-0), a freshman from USJ, earned the win with five innings of scoreless relief. Davis allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out five batters in his five innings.
Belhaven (20-5) took an early lead with a run in both the first and second innings. 91±¬ÁÏÍø tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. Both teams scored a run in the fourth inning to tie the game at 3-3, where it stayed until the 11th.
91±¬ÁÏÍø recorded 11 hits in the game and left 14 men on base. Rudolph, Baker, Alex Turner and David Maristany each had two hits for the Bulldogs. Maristany led with two RBI. Rudolph and Maristany each received an intentional walk in the game.
Jimmy Gilford of Belhaven hit the game’s only homerun, while Craig Dean led the Blazers with two hits.
Andrew Haley started for 91±¬ÁÏÍø, pitching six innings and allowing the three runs on six hits and five walks, while striking out four batters. Golden Grasse (1-1) took the loss in relief, pitching 4.1 innings, allowing seven hits and one run.
Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be a single game at home versus Faulkner (Ala.) University at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17.
