PULASKI, Tenn. - 3/22/2010 - 91±¬ÁÏÍø (Tenn.) University swept the TranSouth Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week awards for the week ending March 21, 2010. Amber Hayes was named player of the week, while Brooke Thomas was named pitcher of the week.
, a junior short-stop from Brighton, Tenn., helped 91±¬ÁÏÍø to a 4-0 week, including a sweep over No. 8 Martin Methodist (Tenn.). She had at least one hit and one run in all four games for the Lady Bulldogs last week. Hayes was 4-for-8 with two doubles, four runs scored and four RBI in the sweep over Martin Methodist. This is Hayes’ second time being selected the conference player of the week.
, a freshman pitcher from Huntingdon, Tenn., went 3-0 with 15.2 innings pitched on the week. She recorded both wins in the Bulldogs sweep over No. 8 Martin Methodist. Thomas struck out 12 hitters in 10.2 innings, allowing only one earned run on five total hits. She also recorded a win over Hannibal-LaGrange where she struck out eight batters in five innings. Thomas is 10-4 on the season.
91±¬ÁÏÍø now has a record of 4-0 over top-25 teams and is 5-1 over teams ranked or receiving votes. The Lady Bulldogs are receiving votes in the NAIA and have a 17-7 overall record.
