No. 19 91±¬ÁÏÍø baseball splits double-header at Martin Methodist

PULASKI, Tenn. - 4/2/2010 - The No. 19 91±¬ÁÏÍø (Tenn.) University Bulldogs split a conference double-header on Friday at Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College. The Bulldogs won the first game 12-1 and dropped the second game 6-5. The third game of the weekend series will be on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in Pulaski.

91±¬ÁÏÍø took control in the first game by scoring four runs in the top of the second. 91±¬ÁÏÍø put the game out of reach in the fourth with six more runs. Two more in the sixth ending the game early, 12-1.

91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by Clint Barnes with three hits and three RBI. Kevin Kirksey added three RBI as both he and Barnes recorded home runs in the game. Every 91±¬ÁÏÍø starter recorded at least one hit in the game, including five with at least two hits.

Senior Carl Harken (5-1) was the beneficiary of the run support. However, Harken didn’t need it all as he allowed just one run on seven hits with four strike outs in this six-inning complete game.

In the second game, 91±¬ÁÏÍø seemed to be in control after a three-run home run by David Maristany put the Bulldogs up 5-1 in the top of the fifth inning. However, Martin Methodist rallied back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 5-3. Derek Copley started the game for 91±¬ÁÏÍø on the mound and when five innings, allowing six hits, three runs, two earned while striking out two. After 91±¬ÁÏÍø was held scoreless in the top of the sixth, Kirksey (1-1) entered the game in relief for 91±¬ÁÏÍø in the bottom of the sixth. He allowed three runs on three hits to give up the lead. Kyle Bowers had the 2-RBI hit that put his team up 6-5. Travis Garcia finished his complete game victory with a shaky, but successful top of the seventh. 91±¬ÁÏÍø managed two runners with no outs, but could not score.

91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by Maristany with three RBI in the second game and Kirksey with two hits.

91±¬ÁÏÍø is 23-7 on the season and 2-3 in the TranSouth. Martin Methodist is 13-17 overall and 2-3 in league play.
