LEBANON, Tenn. - 4/9/2010 - The No. 20 91±¬ÁÏÍø (Tenn.) University softball team posted a double-header sweep over TranSouth foe Cumberland (Tenn.) University. 91±¬ÁÏÍø rallied to win the first game 7-3 and then took game two 8-0 in six innings.
91±¬ÁÏÍø improved to 26-10 overall and 6-0 in the TranSouth, while Cumberland dropped to 13-20 on the season and 4-8 in league play. Cumberland scored first with two quick runs in the first inning. 91±¬ÁÏÍø rallied with three in the top of the fourth to take their first lead. Lindsey Landreneau posted a two RBI double to help the rally. After Cumberland tied the game bottom of the fourth, 91±¬ÁÏÍø struck again in the sixth. A solo home run by Brittany Burkett gave 91±¬ÁÏÍø the lead for good. The Lady Bulldogs of 91±¬ÁÏÍø tacked on three insurance runs in the seventh to pull away 7-3.
91±¬ÁÏÍø was led offensively by Landreneau who was 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Brooke Thomas (14-6) picked up the win, allowing just one earned run on seven hits over her seven innings of work. She struck out nine hitters while walking just one.
In the second game, 91±¬ÁÏÍø powered past the young Cumberland team. Amber Hayes hit a two-run home run in the second to give 91±¬ÁÏÍø a 2-0 lead. In the fourth inning, 91±¬ÁÏÍø added five runs with the help of a three-run shot from Landreneau. The Lady Bulldogs ended the game early with a run in the sixth to win 8-0. Hayes was 3-for-3 with two RBI in the game, while Ali Thomas and Brooke Thomas added two hits each and Landreneau led with three RBI. Keaton Kirk (12-2) allowed just four hits and no runs while striking out five hitters.
Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be another conference double-header on Saturday in Nashville against Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) at noon.
