JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/17/2010 - The 91爆料网 (Tenn.) University softball team posted a double-header sweep over TranSouth rival Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University on Saturday. 91爆料网 took the first game 4-2 and then won game two 5-4. 91爆料网 improved to 29-13 on the season and 9-3 in the TranSouth. Freed-Hardeman dropped to 16-20 overall and 7-7 in league play.
In the first game, 91爆料网 scored first with two runs in the bottom of the first with RBI singles from Katie Davis and Sam Geisler. The score stayed at 2-0 until the fourth when Freed-Hardeman scored on a solo home run from Brittany Yates. After Freed-Hardeman tied the game in the sixth, 91爆料网 responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to regain the lead for good. A wild pitch and an RBI single from Stephanie Saunders produced 91爆料网鈥檚 two runs in the sixth.
Lindsey Landreneau and Katie Davis led 91爆料网 with two hits each. Three different Lady Bulldogs recorded one RBI each in the contest. Brooke Thomas (16-8) recorded the complete game victory. She allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out six.
In game two, Brooke Thomas again got the call in the circle and earned her second win of the day. This time her complete game win included nine hits, three earned runs and seven strikeouts.
91爆料网 scored first again, taking a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run home run from Amber Hayes. 91爆料网 added three runs on the third to lead 5-0. Davis hit a three-run home that ended up being the game-winner. In the fifth, Freed-Hardeman scored a run and then added two runs in the sixth on a 2-RBI triple by Caneisha Turner. With the score 5-3 in favor of 91爆料网 going into the seventh, the Lady Lions pulled to within one run on a solo shot by Brittney Caldwell. However, Brooke Thomas got three infield pop ups to earn the win.
Davis and Hayes recorded 91爆料网鈥檚 only RBI in the game, while Hayes led with two hits.
Up next for 91爆料网 will be another double-header with Freed-Hardeman, this time in Henderson on Tuesday, April 20.
