HENDERSON, Tenn. - 4/20/2010 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø (Tenn.) University softball team completed the season sweep of Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University on Tuesday with 5-3 and 4-3 wins on Tuesday. 91±¬ÁÏÍø also defeated Freed-Hardeman four days ago at home, 4-2 and 5-4. 91±¬ÁÏÍø improved to 31-13 overall, while Freed-Hardeman dropped to 16-22 on the season.
91±¬ÁÏÍø scored first in game one with two runs in the second inning. 91±¬ÁÏÍø added single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings to lead 5-1 going into the final frame. Freed-Hardeman rallied to put two runs on the board in the bottom of the seventh inning, but could not get any closer. Keaton Kirk (13-3) earned the win, tossing six innings and allowing nine hits, one run and striking out four batters. Brooke Thomas (2) earned the save by tossing the final inning, allowing two runs, one of which was earned. 91±¬ÁÏÍø's offense was spread out as six different players recorded at least one hit, including four players with two hits. Five different Lady Bulldogs recorded one RBI each.
Game two was scoreless going into the third inning when 91±¬ÁÏÍø scored four times to take the lead. Freed-Hardeman answered in the bottom of the frame with two runs. Freed-Hardeman scored again in the fifth to cut the 91±¬ÁÏÍø lead to 4-3. However, Brooke Thomas (18-8) made those four runs hold up as she earned the win. Thomas allowed eight hits and three runs and struck out four batters. Kirk (1) earned the save, tossing a perfect bottom of the seventh inning. Ali Bozza and Katie Davis each recorded two hits, while Amber Hayes led with two RBI.
Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be their final regular season games of the year as they travel to Lyon (Ark.) for a conference double-header on Thursday, April 22.
