BATESVILLE, Ark. - 4/22/2010 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø (Tenn.) University softball team posted a double-header split on Thursday at Lyon (Ark.) College, losing game one 5-1 and then winning game two 6-2. With the one win, 91±¬ÁÏÍø clinched a second seed in next week’s TranSouth Conference Tournament.
91±¬ÁÏÍø (32-14) finished with a 10-4 league mark, which puts them in a tie for second with Martin Methodist (Tenn.). However, 91±¬ÁÏÍø wins the tie-breaker with their sweep of Martin Methodist earlier this season. Both 91±¬ÁÏÍø and Martin Methodist finished just one game behind regular season champion, Trevecca Nazarene (11-3).
91±¬ÁÏÍø missed a chance to clinch in game one as they fell 5-1. Lyon scored one run in the first and then broke the game open with three in the fourth inning. Lyon led 5-0 in the game before 91±¬ÁÏÍø scratched a run across in the seventh inning.
91±¬ÁÏÍø then moved into the second game needing the win to get second. A loss for 91±¬ÁÏÍø meant the Lady Bulldogs would drop to the third seed in the conference. 91±¬ÁÏÍø scored twice in the second and one more time in the third to lead 3-0. After Lyon had cut the lead to 3-2, 91±¬ÁÏÍø clinched the win with three more in the sixth.
The TranSouth Conference Tournament will begin on Wednesday, April 28th and go through Friday, April 30th. Trevecca Nazarene will be the host school for the double-elimination tournament.
