No. 20 91±¬ÁÏÍø baseball remains in second with split

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - 4/30/2010 - The No. 20 91±¬ÁÏÍø (Tenn.) University Bulldog baseball team earned a double-header split at Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University on Friday. Trevecca Nazarene rallied in the last inning to win 6-5 in the first game, while 91±¬ÁÏÍø rolled in game two, 10-2. 91±¬ÁÏÍø goes to 34-13 overall and 11-5 in the TranSouth. Trevecca Nazarene is now 29-20 on the season and 7-10 in league play.

In the first game, 91±¬ÁÏÍø trailed 2-0 going into the fourth inning. The Bulldogs responed to tie the game with two runs in the frame. Another Trevecca Nazarene run put the Trojans up again 3-2. In the top of the sixth inning with 91±¬ÁÏÍø still trailing 3-2, David Maristany hit a three-run home run to put 91±¬ÁÏÍø up 5-2. Trevecca Nazarene was not finished as they tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning, then won the game with a run in the bottom of the seventh. Jeremy Stack (3-3) took the loss in relief, allowing one run in one inning of work. Carl Harkin started the game and went 5.2 innings, allowing 10 hits, five runs, four earned runs and had three strikeouts. Josh Jones and Maristany led 91±¬ÁÏÍø with two hits each, while Maristany led the way with four RBI.

Game two was all 91±¬ÁÏÍø as they scored in each of the first five innings. 91±¬ÁÏÍø led 2-0 after one inning, then added four runs in the second, one in the third, two in the fourth and one more in the fifth to lead 10-0. Trevecca Nazarene kept the game from ending early by scoring two in the bottom of the fifth, before 91±¬ÁÏÍø cruised to the 10-2 final. 91±¬ÁÏÍø got a home run from Kevin Kirksey who led 91±¬ÁÏÍø with three hits and three RBI. Danny Grimm added three hits while Jones added two more RBI. Derek Copley (7-1) earned the win with a complete game effort. He allowed just the two runs on five hits and five strikeouts.

Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be a single game at Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday at noon. 91±¬ÁÏÍø then plays the final regular season games on Thursday and Friday, May 6-7 at home versus Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.).
