No. 21 91±¬ÁÏÍø baseball advances in first round

PADUCAH, Ky. - 5/11/2010 - The No. 21 91±¬ÁÏÍø (Tenn.) University baseball team posted a first round victory in the 2010 TranSouth Baseball Conference Tournament with a 7-1 win over Lyon (Ark.) College. 91±¬ÁÏÍø, the #2 seed in the tournament, scored seven unanswered runs to improve to 38-13 on the season.

91±¬ÁÏÍø trailed 1-0 after the top of the first as #5 seed Lyon (29-22) manufactured a run on a two singles and a stolen base. 91±¬ÁÏÍø answered to tie the game in the bottom of the first on an RBI groundout from Josh Jones following two singles and a sacrifice bunt.

91±¬ÁÏÍø took their first lead in the third with a run and then led 3-1 after another score in the fifth. 91±¬ÁÏÍø pulled away with three runs in the sixth, including a two-RBI triple off the base of the wall by Jones. 91±¬ÁÏÍø added a final run in the seventh to set their final at 7-1.

The seven runs were plenty for the first team all-conference pitcher Carl Harken (9-2). Harken tossed eight innings, allowing just one run on six hits with nine strikeouts. He allowed no runs after the first and just one hit in the final five innings of work.

91±¬ÁÏÍø was led offensively by Jones with three RBI. Clint Barnes, Corey Rudolph and David Maristany each posted two hits in the game.

91±¬ÁÏÍø will move on in the winner’s bracket and will play on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
