PADUCAH, Ky. - 5/13/2010 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø (Tenn.) University Bulldogs advanced to their second straight conference title game with an 11-5 win over Martin (Tenn.) Methodist College in the 2010 McDonald's TranSouth Baseball Tournament. 91±¬ÁÏÍø, ranked No. 18 in the final NAIA rankings released on Wednesday, moved to 40-14 on the season. 91±¬ÁÏÍø topped Martin Methodist on Tuesday in the second round 12-6.
In the second match up of the tournament between second seeded 91±¬ÁÏÍø and third seeded Martin Methodist, both teams matched runs early as the scored was tied 3-3 going into the top of the seventh. However, 91±¬ÁÏÍø exploded for seven runs on three hits and two RedHawks errors in the frame to push out to the 10-3 lead.
91±¬ÁÏÍø freshman starter and Jackson, Tenn. native Jared Davis (8-0) earned the win with eight innings of work, allwoing five runs, four earned on nine hits while striking out four. Josh Jones continued his great tournament for 91±¬ÁÏÍø as he added to his tournament high nine RBI with two more in this game.
91±¬ÁÏÍø, the defending TranSouth Tournament Champion, will face off against NAIA No. 2 and top seeded Cumberland (Tenn.) at noon on Thursday. 91±¬ÁÏÍø must win twice to repeat as champions. Cumberland defeated 91±¬ÁÏÍø 14-5 in the winner's bracket final earlier on Wednesday.
