JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/14/2010 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø (Tenn.) University volleyball team posted a 3-1 (25-21, 25-19, 20-25, 25-20) win over conference foe Bethel (Tenn.) University. 91±¬ÁÏÍø improved to 3-3 overall and 3-0 in the TranSouth. Bethel dropped to 4-3 on the season and 3-2 in league play.
In a very closely played first set, 91±¬ÁÏÍø and Bethel went back and forth. Bethel led 19-18, before 91±¬ÁÏÍø scored five of the next six points and seven of the last nine to take the 25-21 win. In the second set, the play was back and forth again and saw Bethel lead 15-13. But again is was 91±¬ÁÏÍø with a late rally to seal the win. 91±¬ÁÏÍø closed the set with a 13-4 run to go up 2-0.
In the third set, Bethel jumped to a quick 3-0 lead and maintained control for the rest of the set. Bethel led by as many as seven points three different times, including 18-11. 91±¬ÁÏÍø mounted a rally to cut the deficit to 23-20, but got no closer.
The fourth set started much the way the third did as Bethel jumped out to an 11-6 lead. However, 91±¬ÁÏÍø had one more rally left. 91±¬ÁÏÍø went on a 13-1 run to take a 19-12 lead. Bethel cut the deficit to 23-20, but the run help propel 91±¬ÁÏÍø to the 25-20 win, taking the set and match.
91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by Anna Sims and Marcela Madeira with 12 kills each. Emmie Moroski added 36 assists, while Shelby Swink added seven blocks.
Bethel was led by Adrianna Gonzales with a match-high 16 kills. Jessica Vieira and Thaise Vieira added 10 kills each. Shea Sheppard dished out 38 assists. Taylor Ruiz added four blocks.
Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be four matches in the TranSouth/MidSouth Classic at Cumberland (Tenn.) University on Friday and Saturday.
