LEBANON, Tenn. - 11/4/2010 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø (Tenn.) University volleyball team closed out the regular season with a 3-2 (17-25, 15-25, 25-12, 25-22, 15-8) win at Cumberland (Tenn.) University. 91±¬ÁÏÍø improved to 22-7 on the season and 13-1 in the TranSouth. Cumberland dropped to 22-11 overall and 8-6 in league play.
91±¬ÁÏÍø had already clinched the regular season title and the No. 1 seed in next week’s TranSouth Conference Tournament. 91±¬ÁÏÍø closed out the regular season with five straight wins, all in league play.
Cumberland jumped out early on 91±¬ÁÏÍø and dominated the first two sets, winning 25-17 and 25-15 to take a commanding 2-0 lead. However, it was the Lady Bulldogs of 91±¬ÁÏÍø who rallied. 91±¬ÁÏÍø cruised to a 25-12 win in the third set and survived to win 25-22 in the fourth set to even the match. 91±¬ÁÏÍø then claimed the fifth and deciding set 15-8 to win the match.
91±¬ÁÏÍø won the earlier meeting between these two teams 3-0 at 91±¬ÁÏÍø to sweep the season series.
91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by Marcela Madeira with 19 kills. Anna Sims and Caroline Robbins recorded 11 and 10 kills respectively. Emmie Moroski dished out 48 assists while Kelsey Duling led with 17 digs. Sims led with seven blocks.
Cumberland was led by Kaysi Arnold with 15 kills, Taylor Denney had 26 assists, Jaclyn Rodriguez led with 18 digs, and Angelyn Stanton led with five blocks.
91±¬ÁÏÍø will be the No. 1 seed in the TranSouth Conference Tournament on Nov. 8-10 in Henderson, Tenn. 91±¬ÁÏÍø face No. 8 seeded Mid-Continent (Ky.) in the first round at 2:00 p.m.
