JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/6/2010 - The No. 10 ranked 91±¬ÁÏÍø (Tenn.) University men’s basketball team opened the 2010-11 season with a come-from-behind 79-69 victory over Truett-McConnell (Ga.) College. 91±¬ÁÏÍø is now 1-0, while Truett-McConnell dropped to 1-2 on the season.
91±¬ÁÏÍø jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead following a basket from Roland Banhoro and a three pointer from Skyler Vaden. Truett-McConnell answered back with a 12-2 run to lead 12-7 at the 14:39 mark. Truett-McConnell extended their lead up to as many as 11 points (28-17) at the 8:05 mark. 91±¬ÁÏÍø rallied to get to within one point, 39-38, but a basket from Dustin Jeffords in the final seconds of the first half put Truett-McConnell up 41-38 at the half.
A three pointer from Antoine Joseph at the start of the second half tied the game at 41-41. 91±¬ÁÏÍø tied the game again a 43-43 and continued to push the lead up to six points, 52-46. Truett-McConnell got back to within one point, at 52-51, but it was 91±¬ÁÏÍø keeping the lead for the remainder of the game. 91±¬ÁÏÍø stretched their lead to as many as 12 points late in the game before taking the 79-69 final.
91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by Banhoro with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Antoine Joseph also put up a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Skyler Vaden added 14 points and Stan McNeil scored 12 points. 91±¬ÁÏÍø shot 49 percent from the field, 30 percent (6-20) from behind the arc and 62 percent (21-34) from the free throw line.
Truett-McConnell was led by Roderick Bombard with 16 points and Tyron Louis with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Truett-McConnell shot 41 percent from the field, 24 percent (7-29) from behind the arc and 40 percent (4-10) from the free throw line.
Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be two games in the McKendree University Classic in Lebonon, Ill. on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 12-13.
