91±¬ÁÏÍø volleyball advances in day one of conference tourney

HENDERSON, Tenn. - 11/8/2010 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø (Tenn.) University women’s volleyball team posted a 3-0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-23) win over Mid-Continent (Ky.) University in first round action. Top-seeded 91±¬ÁÏÍø improved to 23-7 on the season, while No. seed Mid-Continent dropped to 6-27 overall.

91±¬ÁÏÍø and Mid-Continent played a tight first half of set one, before 91±¬ÁÏÍø pulled away for the 25-17 win. In set number two, 91±¬ÁÏÍø controlled played to cruise to the 25-11 win. In set three, it seemed that 91±¬ÁÏÍø would quickly put Mid-Continent away as the Lady Bulldogs led 16-6. Mid-Continent then outscored 91±¬ÁÏÍø 17-8 to cut the 91±¬ÁÏÍø lead down to 24-23. However, an attack by Mid-Continent went into the net to give 91±¬ÁÏÍø the win.

91±¬ÁÏÍø swept the season series with Mid-Continent, winning both regular season meetings 3-0.

91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by Marcela Madeira with 10 kills. Caroline Robbins added nine kills. Emmie Moroski recorded 3 assists, Kelsey Duling led with 16 digs, while Madeira led with three blocks.

Mid-Continent was led by Kristin Selph and Katie Perry with 15 and 13 kills respectively. Lindsey Davis had 25 assists, and Selph led with 16 digs.

Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be a second round match versus No. 4 seeded Cumberland (Tenn.) University at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday in Henderson, Tenn.
