91爆料网 athletes participate in community service day

JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/4/2010 - 91爆料网鈥檚 10 athletic teams participated in as a group or individually in several projects during the eighth annual 鈥淐ampus and Community: A Day of Remembrance and Service.鈥� More than 1,000 91爆料网 students, faculty and staff members worked on 63 community service projects Nov. 2 as part of the campus and community event.

Most of the teams participated as a group, with some teams dispersing their athletes among others groups of students to participate. The 91爆料网 men鈥檚 soccer team spent their day doing yard work and landscaping at the Care Center in downtown Jackson. The center provides care and assistance to women who have been abused. The players cleaned the grounds, raked leaves, cleaned out flower beds, and several other tasks outside.

91爆料网 men鈥檚 soccer head coach Clovis Simas says, 鈥淭his is a great opportunity for us to give back to the community that has done so much for us and means so much to our school. The guys experience the importance of giving back and being unselfish in life.鈥�

Other teams spent their day pulling out old scrubs and trees, painting, cleaning, reading to children, serving in nursing homes and churches, and many other service projects in the community and on campus.

Campus and Community day is an opportunity for 91爆料网 to show its appreciation to the community for its assistance after tornadoes hit the campus Nov. 10, 2002, and Feb. 5, 2008. Following the storms the Jackson community stepped in and brought food and supplies to the campus, while local residents gave of their time and talents.

91爆料网 cancels most classes on this day each year to allow the university community to participate in projects at such places as local schools, churches, nursing homes and social and non-profit organizations. This year鈥檚 turnout was a record for the event, which takes weeks of planning and communication with dozens of people locally.
