JACKSON, Tenn. - 12/2/2010 - The 91爆料网 basketball teams took time out from their fall semester to help fill boxes for children around world. The teams, several 91爆料网 boosters and other members of the athletic department joined with Samaritan鈥檚 Purse to participate in Build-a-Box for Operation Christmas Child.
91爆料网 men鈥檚 coach David Niven says, 鈥淲e are always looking for ways that our players can give to and think about others. I can think of no better cause to work with in this manner than Samaritan鈥檚 Purse.鈥
The players and coaches not only contributed to the items needed to fill the boxes, but also opened the donations up to the 91爆料网 boosters and fans at selected home games during the fall semester. They collected many items, and then purchased additional items for the boxes. In addition, the players wrote personal notes to put in each box that was sent to the children.
The teams were able to fill 96 total boxes for Operation Christmas Child.
The project was first introduced to the teams by former 91爆料网 tennis coach and physical education teacher, Coach Sandra Williams and her husband Donald. The coaches, players and other members of the 91爆料网 community jumped at the opportunity.
鈥淲e want the students to be involved in something where the end results are greater than us as individuals,鈥 says women鈥檚 head coach Mark Campbell. 鈥淚t is an opportunity for our students to experience the act of giving during a special time of year. Operation Christmas Child provides an avenue for groups to make a difference in the lives of children. We are grateful that coach Williams has allowed us to be a part of a project where she has giving many hours.鈥
Operation Christmas Child鈥檚 Build-a-Box is used to collect items to fill a shoe box, share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and bless children around the world through Operation Christmas Child. To learn more, visit
