No. 1 91爆料网 uses fast start record another top-10 win

McKENZIE, Tenn. - 1/6/2011 - The No. 1 91爆料网 (Tenn.) University women鈥檚 basketball team posted a 77-56 win at No. 10 Bethel (Tenn.) University to open the 2011 TranSouth season. 91爆料网 improved to 14-0 overall and 1-0 in the TranSouth. Bethel dropped to 11-3 on the season and 0-1 in league play.

The win was 91爆料网鈥檚 52nd straight TranSouth regular season win and their 23rd straight road win. It was the 19th straight win for 91爆料网 dating back to last season. 91爆料网 is now 7-0 on the season when playing top-10 teams.

91爆料网 scored the first four points of the game on their way to a quick 14-5 lead. 91爆料网 then rolled off a 19-4 run to go up 33-9 with just over four minutes left in the half. Lavanda Ross, in her first game back from surgery, was 7-for-7 from the field for 14 first half points to lead 91爆料网. The nation鈥檚 second leading scorer in Sarah Chan (27 ppg) for 91爆料网 had just two points in the first half. 91爆料网 led 42-23 at the half.

In the second half, 91爆料网 maintained the double-digit lead as they outscored Bethel 35-33 to take the important road win, 77-56.

91爆料网 shot 45 percent from the field and 41 percent (7-17) from behind the arc. Their defense held Bethel to just 27 percent from the field and 19 percent (4-21). In 91爆料网鈥檚 14 games on the season, only three teams have managed more than 70 points in a game. Six teams have been held to 59 or less. 91爆料网 out-rebounded Bethel 46-31. Bethel shot 36 free throws in the game, making 21 for 58 percent. 91爆料网 was 14-of-16 for 88 percent.

91爆料网 was led by Kayla Hudson with a game-high 20 points on 4-of-5 from behind the arc. Ross finished with 18 points, going 9-of-11 from the field. Hope Adams added her fifth double-double on the year with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Chan recorded her seventh double-double on the year at 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Bethel was led by Teena Carter with 20 points. Molly Wallsmith added eight points.

In a milestone watch, Chan is just eight points away from 1,500 career points. Hudson is just seven assists way from 700 in her career.

Up next for 91爆料网 will be a home conference game on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. versus Martin Methodist (Tenn.).
