McKENZIE, Tenn. - 1/6/2011 - The No. 16 91爆料网 (Tenn.) University men鈥檚 basketball team posted an 89-78 win at Bethel (Tenn.) University to open the TranSouth season. The win for 91爆料网 was their ninth straight win on the season as they go to 12-3 overall and 1-0 in league play. Bethel dropped to 10-4 on the season and 0-1 in league play.
Bethel scored first and held a 12-8 lead early in the game. 91爆料网 rallied back to tie the game 14-14. Then 91爆料网 pulled away, posting a 9-0 run to lead 21-14 with 9:53 left in the half. 91爆料网 never trailed again as they pushed up to a 49-34 halftime lead.
In the second half, 91爆料网 led by 20 points on two occasions including 86-66 with just under three minutes left following a three pointer from Skyler Vaden. However, a flurry of 91爆料网 turnovers, including two straight on the inbounds pass led to a 12-0 run by Bethel. Bethel had cut the 91爆料网 lead down to 86-78, when Stan McNeil and Antoine Hall combined to hit 3-of-4 free throws to push 91爆料网鈥檚 lead back to 89-78 with 25 seconds left. That scored stood for the final.
91爆料网 head coach David Niven says, 鈥淲e worked hard to build a good lead, but did not finish the game well. We are pleased to get a road win in conference play, but need to work on things as we get ready for Martin Methodist on Saturday.鈥
91爆料网 will host the No. 11 and undefeated RedHawks on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at Fred DeLay Gymnasium.
91爆料网 played 10 players in the game with eight players scoring, including seven players in double figures. 91爆料网 was led by Samuel Danache with 15 points. CJ Davis and McNeil added 14 and 12 points respectively, with both making three 3-pointers. Antoine Joseph, Antoine Hall and Shane Burrell each added 11 points, while Joseph added 13 rebounds for a double-double. Vaden scored 10 in the game. 91爆料网 shot 43 percent from the field, 40 percent (10-25) from three-point range and 66 percent (21-32) from the free throw line.
Bethel was led by Andre Crudup with a game-high 20 points. Jarvis Palmer added 18 points and Javis Williams scored 13 points. The Wildcats shot 38 percent from the field, 27 percent (6-22) from behind the arc and 58 percent (15-24) from the charity stripe.
