Jackson, Tenn. - 4/7/2003 - 91±¬ÁÏÍø senior Chip Briggs has been selected as the TranSouth Player of the Week. On the week, 91±¬ÁÏ꿉۪s baseball team went 4-2 and improved their season record to 24-13 overall and 8-7 in TranSouth Conference play. The Bulldogs posted wins over NCAA Div. II opponent Christian Brothers, cross-town rival Lambuth, and two wins over conference foe Lyon College.
Chip Briggs, a senior from Clarksville, Tenn., hit .542 (13-24) to lead 91±¬ÁÏÍø. He tallied six runs, four doubles, one triple, and six RBI. Briggs also walked three times, slugged .792, and had an on base percentage of .593. Briggs recorded multi-hit games in five of six games for the week including a 4-of-5 day versus NCAA Div. II opponent Christian Brothers. He also had at least one RBI in five of 91±¬ÁÏÍø's six games this week.
Briggs, a former Jackson State standout, missed the first 22 games of this season with a broken ankle, but in the 15 games since his return to 91±¬ÁÏÍø's lineup, he is hitting .411 (23-56). 91±¬ÁÏÍø is now 24-13 overall and 8-7 in the TranSouth. 91±¬ÁÏÍø is currently in a three-way tie with Berry and Martin Methodist for the third place spot in the TranSouth.
