No. 1 91爆料网 claims another top-10 victory in tussle with No. 5 Freed-Hardeman

Hope Adams gets double-double

JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/15/2011 - The 91爆料网 (Tenn.) University women鈥檚 basketball team posted a 76-65 win over No. 5 Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University in front of a full Fred DeLay Gymnasium Crowd. It was the 10th time in their 17 total games that 91爆料网 has faced a top-10 opponent at the time of the contest. 91爆料网 is 5-0 against teams that currently remain in the top-10.

91爆料网 extending their winning streak to 22 straight games, going 17-0 overall and 4-0 in league play. Freed-Hardeman dropped to 13-4 on the season and 2-1 in league play.

The win for 91爆料网 was also their 55th straight TranSouth regular season win and 11th straight home win. The last home loss for 91爆料网 was a loss to Freed-Hardeman in last season鈥檚 conference tournament, snapping a 60-game 91爆料网 home winning streak.

The game not only featured two of the NAIA鈥檚 top-5 teams, but also matched up the nation鈥檚 top two scorers. Freed-Hardeman鈥檚 Meribeth Boehler entered the game No. 1 in the NAIA in scoring (24.3). 91爆料网鈥檚 Sarah Chan entered the game second in the nation at 22.6 points per game. Boehler finished with 17 points and four rebounds in 36 minutes of play. Chan finished with 19 points and nine rebounds in 24 minutes of play.

91爆料网 scored first on a basket from Chan, answered by a basket from Boehler. Chan scored the next two baskets for 91爆料网 as they took the 6-2 lead. 91爆料网 pushed their lead up to eight points, 19-11, at the 11:52 mark. Freed-Hardeman rallied with a 14-5 run to take a brief 25-24 lead. 91爆料网鈥檚 Chan scored next for 91爆料网 to put the Lady Bulldogs back on top for good. 91爆料网 extended the lead to five points late in the half, before a three pointer from Natalie Shumpert cut 91爆料网鈥檚 halftime lead down to 34-32.

In the second half, 91爆料网 quickly pushed the lead back up to seven points, 41-34, over the first two minutes. The Lady Lions got as close as two points at 43-41 before 91爆料网 extended their cushion back to eight points, 52-44. 91爆料网 led by six points, 62-56, late in the half when Kayla Hudson scored two of her game-high 27 points. That basketball sparked a 9-1 91爆料网 run that extended their lead to 14 points, 71-57, with three minutes to go. 91爆料网 made 5-of-7 free throws down the stretch to secure the 76-65 win.

91爆料网 was led by Hudson鈥檚 27 points, including four three pointers and seven assists. Chan added 19 points and Lavanda Ross scored 13 points. Hope Adams added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. 91爆料网 shot 48 percent from the field, 26 percent (5-19) from long range and 88 percent (15-17) from the free throw line.

Freed-Hardeman was led by Boehler and Natalie Shumpert with 17 points each. Leslie Morgan added 15 points, including a season high five three pointers. The Lady Lions shot 48 percent from the field, 38 percent (9-24) from three point range and 57 percent (8-14) from the free throw line.

Up next for 91爆料网 will be a road conference game at Mid-Continent (Ky.) on Monday, January 17. It will be the third game in a stretch of five games in 10 days.
