No. 17 91爆料网 holds off Freed-Hardeman in shootout, 94-89

JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/15/2011 - The No. 17 91爆料网 (Tenn.) University men鈥檚 basketball team edged Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University 94-89. 91爆料网 improved to 14-4 on the season and 3-1 in the TranSouth. Freed-Hardeman, who is receiving votes in the latest NAIA rankings, dropped to 10-7 overall and 2-1 in league play.

91爆料网 shot 65 percent from the field in the second half, including 55 percent (6-11) from behind the arc, to overcome a 43-40 halftime deficit.

Freed-Hardeman increased their halftime advantage to six points, 48-42 over the first two-plus minutes of play. 91爆料网 scored six straight to tie the game, but the Lions stretched their lead back to five points, 53-48. 91爆料网 slowly rallied back and tied the game again at 53-53. The game went back-and-forth for the next few minutes with two ties and two lead changes. With the game tied at 62-62 at the 10:23 mark, 91爆料网鈥檚 Stan McNeil put the Bulldogs up for good as he scored 11 of 91爆料网鈥檚 next 13 points. In that stretch, McNeil sank all three of this 3-pointers for the game in a span of three minutes. 91爆料网 pushed their lead up to as many as 10 points, 85-75 with 3:24 left in the game.

The Lions cut into 91爆料网鈥檚 lead on a three pointer from Cedric Austin at the 1:49 mark. With 91爆料网 up 86-82, the Bulldogs sank 6-of-6 free throws over the next 30 seconds, but Freed-Hardeman kept answering with shots on the other end. With 38 seconds left, Austin drained another three pointer to cut 91爆料网鈥檚 lead back down to just five points, 92-87. Over the last 38 seconds, 91爆料网 missed six straight free throws and allowed the Lions to get to within three points, 92-89, following a basket from Kyle Teichmann with 13 seconds left. However, 91爆料网 got two free throws in the final 13 seconds to seal the 94-89 win.

In the first half, 91爆料网 jumped out to a 10-3 lead to start the game. However, a 7-0 run by Freed-Hardeman put the Lions up for their first lead of the contest. The first half produced two ties and seven lead changes. 91爆料网鈥檚 biggest lead was nine points, while Freed-Hardeman led by as many as five in the first half.

91爆料网 was led by McNeil with 23 points, including three 3-pointers. Syker Vaden also made three from long range as a part of his 20 points. CJ Davis and Shane Burrell each added 13 points and Antoine Hall scored 12 points. 91爆料网 shot 53 percent in the game, 42 percent (10-24) from behind the arc and 67 percent (20-30) from the free throw line.

Freed-Hardeman was led by Teichmann with a game-high 29 points. Jonathan Milewski added 20 points with six 3-pointers. Austin scored 18 points with four 3-pointers. The Lions shot 48 percent from the field, 46 percent (13-28) from long range and were a perfect 14-14 from the free throw line.

Up next for 91爆料网 will be a road game at Mid-Continent (Ky.) at Monday, January 17 at 8:00 p.m. It will be the third game in a stretch of five games in 10 days.
