LEBANON, Tenn. - 2/14/2011 - The No. 14 91±¬ÁÏÍø (Tenn.) University men’s basketball team rallied for a 73-62 win at Cumberland (Tenn.) University on Monday. 91±¬ÁÏÍø improved to 21-5 on the season and 10-2 in the TranSouth. Cumberland dropped to 14-10 overall and 8-4 in league play.
91±¬ÁÏÍø remains one game back of league leader Martin Methodist (Tenn.) but does not hold the tie-breaker.
91±¬ÁÏÍø trailed early as the home Bulldogs of Cumberland slowly extended their lead to a game-high 10 points, 26-16 at the 8:05 mark. But 91±¬ÁÏÍø began to rally and got as close as two points in the first half, with the latest coming 34-32. But it was Cumberland that held a 37-34 halftime lead.
In the second half, 91±¬ÁÏÍø took a brief lead of 41-40 almost three minutes into the half. Cumberland then went back up by eight points, 51-43, with just under 15 minutes left to play.
91±¬ÁÏÍø rallied again. The Bulldogs of 91±¬ÁÏÍø posted a 14-2 run to go from eight down to four points ahead, 57-53, with 6:07 left to play. 91±¬ÁÏÍø never trailed again, pushing their lead to as many as 11 points with the 73-62 final. Despite shooting just 62 percent from the free throw line in the game, 91±¬ÁÏÍø was 8-of-8 from the charity stripe in the final 90 seconds.
After being out-rebounded by one in the first half, 91±¬ÁÏÍø finished the game with an 11 rebound advantage, including 10 offensive rebounds in the second half to spark the rally.
All nine players for 91±¬ÁÏÍø that played scored at least two points in the game. 91±¬ÁÏÍø had four players in double figures led by CJ Davis with 17 points. Antoine Joseph added 14 points and 14 rebounds, while Shane Burrell added 13 points and Antoine Hall scored 11 points. 91±¬ÁÏÍø shot 47 percent from the field, 21 percent (4-19) from behind the arc and 62 percent (13-21) from the free throw line.
Cumberland was led by Graciano Negron with 17 points. Walter Simon scored 16 points and Lindal Yarbrough added 12 points. Cumberland shot 37 percent from the field, 29 percent (6-21) from long range and 67 percent (18-27) from the free throw line.
