No. 14 91爆料网 survives overtime scare at home

JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/17/2011 - The No. 14 91爆料网 (Tenn.) University men鈥檚 basketball team survived an upset bid from Mid-Continent (Ky.) University on Thursday night with a 77-67 overtime win. 91爆料网 improved to 22-5 on the season and 11-2 in the TranSouth. Mid-Continent dropped to 10-17 overall and 3-10 in league play.

91爆料网 scored 12 unanswered points in overtime to get the win.

The teams went back and forth over the first 12 minutes of the game with three ties and five lead changes. 91爆料网 took an 18-16 lead at the 8:20 mark on a pair of free throws from CJ Davis. 91爆料网 extended their lead to as many as 11 points, 31-20, thanks to a 15-4 run over the next five minutes. Mid-Continent then cut the 91爆料网 lead down to just five points at the half, 33-28.

In the second half, 91爆料网 pushed their lead back out to 49-38, matching their largest lead of 11 points in the game. With 12:21 left to play, 91爆料网 led 51-41. Mid-Continent slowly started to rally and tied the game at 59-59 on a basket from Tim Bryant with 1:37 left in the game. 91爆料网 went back up by four points, when Chris Tillman of Mid-Continent sank a three pointer to cut the deficit down to one point, 63-62, with 51 seconds left. After a missed field goal from 91爆料网鈥檚 Davis, Mid-Continent鈥檚 Matt Fraliex sank a three pointer in traffic with 15 seconds left in the game to give his team a 65-63 lead. 91爆料网鈥檚 Stan McNeil drove the length of the court and missed on a game-tying attempt. However, 91爆料网鈥檚 Velko Petrovic put back the offensive rebound and was fouled with 1.5 seconds left. His free throw fell short, sending the game to overtime, 65-65.

In overtime, Mid-Continent scored the first basket at the 2:56 mark. 91爆料网 answered with a bucket from Shane Burrell, followed by back-to-back three pointers from McNeil and Burrell to put 91爆料网 up 73-67 with 55 seconds left to play. 91爆料网 got a pair of free throws each from Davis and Antoine Joseph down the stretch to seal the 77-67 win.

91爆料网 put five players in double-figures led by Davis with 19 points. McNeil scored 16 points, Joseph recorded a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds, while Antoine Hall and Burrell added 10 points each. 91爆料网 shot just 38 percent from the field, 32 percent (10-31) from long range and 76 percent (25-33) from the free throw line.

Mid-Continent was led by Bryant with 22 points and Fraliex with 16 points, including four 3-pointers. The Cougars shot 34 percent from the field, 33 percent (10-30) from behind the arc and 46 percent (5-11) from the free throw line.
