JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/8/2011 - The 91爆料网 (Tenn.) University men鈥檚 golf team posted a victory in their first tournament of the spring. 91爆料网 claimed first place in the Martin Methodist (Tenn.) Invitational played at The Peninsula Golf Resort in Gulf Shores, Ala.
91爆料网, who is receiving votes in the NAIA preseason golf rankings, jumped out to a five stroke lead after the first round on Monday with a team score of 299. 91爆料网 was the only team in the field to post a score lower that 300 in either day. 91爆料网 led over Mobile (Ala.) who shot at 304 and Cumberland (Tenn.) who shot 305.
On Tuesday, 91爆料网 shot a 314 which was third best in the final round but held on for the three-stroke win. Mobile and Cumberland both posted 312鈥檚 in the final round to inch closer to 91爆料网.
91爆料网 shot a two-round score of 613 to win the seven-team field. Mobile was second at 616, Cumberland placed third at 617, Lambuth (Tenn.) was fourth at 626, Maryville was fifth at 639, Martin Methodist was sixth at 676 and Bethel (Tenn.) was seventh at 687.
91爆料网鈥檚 Brett Barry, a former Jackson Christian standout, finished in a tie for second place in the individual totals. Barry shot a two-day total of 148, one shot behind the winner and four those over par. Other 91爆料网 finishers included Micah Gentle in fifth (150), Ryan Chandler in 13th (158), Matt Kelley in 14th (159), Jake Carroll in 25th (165), Tyler Lay in 31st (172), Ben Waits in 37th (178) and David Hopper in 38th (184).
Up next for 91爆料网 will be the Grover Page/UT Martin Invitational on March 14-15 at the Jackson Country Club.
